girlfindsworld:
I always like to know the opinions of other U2 fans/lovers/worshippers, so lyrically, what are your favourite U2 songs?
I've always had a four way tie between:
1) 'Sunday Bloody Sunday'
2) 'Acrobat'
3) 'Until The End of The World'
and
4) 'Walk On' (although in this case, i'm inclined to both versions of it).

Lyrically? I'd have to go with 'Bad.' They go so deep & relate on so many levels, so universal, the human condition, everything... :)

Good question!

Strangely enough, my favorite U2 song is "Love Comes Tumbling" from WAIA. I have no idea why.

I'm going to say Walk On but I don't know if it's true. It's my favourite song of all time and it means so much to me that I can't get past that part of it. So I may be biased.

Actually to be honest the first three are my favourites. If I had to pick a fourth I'd say eletrical storm.

"One Tree Hill" really stands out lyrically.

Amen to that. I feel a connection with the lyrics of One Tree Hill that I do not feel with any other song at all.

A Sort Of Homecoming is also a lyrical gem. As is the rest of The Unforgettable Fire album.

A Sort of Homecoming stands out in every way. It's brilliant. I think Promenade is also brilliant, and under-appreciated.

Throwing in a good word for "Kite" and "Please" - my favorite songs both musically and lyrically.

Hmm. That's a tough question. I guess if I absolutely had to pick one it would be Streets, which has gotten me through many a tough day (and was the opening quote of my award-winning speech/college application essay on U2). I think pretty much all their songs are interesting lyrically though, even some of the "immature" early stuff.

I think I'd have to say (in no particular order) "Bad", "Kite", "Stay (Faraway, So Close!)", "God Pt. II", "Until the End of the World" (Judus's POV = pure brilliance), and "Running To Stand Still". If I had to pick one, though, I think I'd go with "Stay" because it reminds me very specifically of a loved one.

I love so many. Pride was the first song that really got to me. Bad, Kite, God Part II, Silver and Gold. There's so many.

And I love So Cruel!!

between the horses of love and lust we are trampled underfoot... ;)

There are far too many to list and I'm too tired to think about it right now, but I'll throw in a mention for Lemon because I don't think anyone else has done so yet. That song is so beautiful lyrically, and in every other sense as well.

If it's lyrical “depth” we're after, then my votes go to Bad, Running to stand Still, The Wanderer, Baby Face, Where The Streets Have No Name, Kite, When I Look at the World, and If You Wear That Velvet Dress. Number one would be Stay (Faraway, So Close!).

However, if it's lyrical levity and flippancy, then I have to go with Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me, Discotheque, Zooropa, Vertigo, and the best of the best, Miami.

I would also add, that were I to select a favorite album based on lyrics, it would be a close race, but Zooropa would beat Pop by a lemon.

"Until The End of the World"
"Discoteque"
"Kite"

Are all the ones I can think of off the top of my head.
