Hello Hello!!

johnny_ever:
I respectfully request that anyone who has heard How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb would either refrain from talking about it on the community or put it behind a labeled cut. I want to wait until the album comes out before I hear or know anything about the music, at least what has not already been properly released (widespread, at least). I have spoken with others in this community who feel the same way. I appreciate it in advance.

It's playing legally on the radio here, for pete's sake.

Exactly. I'm not sure if it's legal, but they're playing it nonetheless. You can't avoid it.

Precisely. It's getting to the point where you'd need to crawl into a hole to avoid the new album.

(In any case, the original poster's logic doesn't quite work. If they don't want to hear anything about the new album until it has been legally released to shops in their part of the world and that location happens to be North America, where the album is released on 23 November, do Irish who have legally purchased the album in stores on 19 November still have to cut it?)

It's very simple.

If you don't like it, don't read it. *shrug* It's not as though people are posting full song lyrics or anything like that.

The typical form decorum of a community is to lable posts about something like this is "spoiler"--that way those who don't want to know about it can be alerted. I don't think it's asking THAT much that we say "Spoiler" guys, come on.

I would like to same respect to be shown during the tour, as I don't want the set lists until I've seen them--I cheated and looked at the previous show before EVERY show I've ever gone to, and I've been less than surprised. I want to wait this time.

Is this going to be a real problem for you guys?

in cases like this, unfortunately, I think there really is no way to prevent it. there are too many people in the community, and I'm sure many will not read this post or care or will have just joined. it seems the best option is to take the community off of one's friend's page for now. I feel much the same way...I'm waiting for the album...I don't mind hearing which ones people like so far...but I don't think it's going to work in this community at least, to ask people to stop talking about it. that's all it's about lately.

a cut would be a great idea though, and I definitely support that option. but once again, I say that it's really not likely to happen in a community of 700 with more joining every day.

We'll do out best to make sure spoilers aren't splashed across your friends page. But really I think your best bet right now is to avoid U2 fan pages until the 22nd or 23rd depending on where you are.

I know several people who are doing exactly that. Yes we can force people to tag entries, but it may take several hours for a mod to see a big spoiler post. In that time you may have noticed a lyric, major music spoiler whatever....

Now that major radio stations around the world is playing the album, I think Mars may be the best place to go for those who don't want to hear about the new album.

I agree wholeheartedly with johnny_ever, being another fan who is preferring to wait until the album is released (IN STORES) here in The States to hear it.

I've found the level of self-righteous disrespect towards johnny_ever's request to be incredibly rude. Every single radio station in the world is NOT "legally" playing the album. I live in Phoenix, AZ and the only new U2 that is playing on the radio stations here is "Vertigo."

I agree that it would potentially be difficult to moderate the community to make sure that there are no spoiler posts, but that's still not a reason to be rude to fellow fans, making grand statements that you "can't avoid" the album and would have to go to Mars to do so. That's ridiculous.

Even if some spoiler posts do manage to get through, at least the people that *have read* this post can extend the courtesty of using an LJ cut if they're going to post spoilers about the album. Spoilers include ANY descriptions of the new songs, especially those that compare the new songs to other songs that we HAVE heard.

It's called respect. People shouldn't have to leave the community because others refuse to be respectful.

My British humour has obviously gone right over your head.

Lets face it, you just can't avoid news of the new U2 album. All major press have released reviews, the album will be streamed online next week on over a dozen sites & U2 will be playing a gig next week, where no doubt they'll play new songs. People want to discuess all this - its what we're here for.

Anyhow lets all calm down. Future spoiler posts that are not tagged, will be tagged without notice. But I just can't promise this will be done the minute any offending post is put onto the community. So you'll have to be prepared to see spoilers on your friends page. That's why allot of people will avoid U2 communities until the 22nd, including the owner of this community.

Walk On!
