boomstick:
I'm currently feelin: aggravated aggravated

I'm a huge U2 fan, but I can't find any info on my question.

Why does Bono yell "Unos, dos, tres, catorce" at the beginning of Vertigo? I know the man can count in Spanish, and I know there's a meaning behind it, but...what? I've been looking everywhere and I can't find a thing.

Thanks.

P.S. Sorry if this has been answered already =\

Its apparently a passage from the bible. Bit like J33-3

I heard it was for Steve Lillywhite, because he worked on their 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 14th albums.

sorry, change that.
It was for Steve Lillywhite because he produced these albums.

He's worked on other, but those were produced primarily by Lanois/Eno

Well, Bono was asked that very question this morning by Jo Wiley who had the entire band on her show on Radio 1. Bono basically sounded extremely embarassed and said "erm... there may have been some drink involved with that", he certainly gave the impression that it wasn't intentional, didn't mean anything and should in fact have been four not fourteen.

Now that makes me wonder how many different things we hear in U2 songs and interrept one way, but in reality was put into the song because of a large amount of alcohol.

For example, Bill Flannigan asked Bono at one point in the "U2 At the End of the World" book why there were so many references to oral sex in Achtung Baby, and Bono seemed rather suprised and perplexed that Bill asked the question.

Yeah, I've been wondering that. Its cool that there are actually a few answers. One thing though... he actually says "Unos" instead of "Uno", which, correct me if I'm wrong, doesn't really mean anything in Spanish. I'm not so sure about his answer of it being unintentional. I expect he was expecting that question at some point, and just said what he did because he's Bono. There must be some meaning in it somewhere.

"Unos" is the plural of "Un", which is the masculine word for "a". Still, that doesn't quite fit...

yeah, unos, being the plural of 'a', literally means 'some'
hah. so now it's "some, two, three, fourteen!" ?

Bono said there could've been drink involved with that? What, were they counting the number of shots they were popping?

"let's see, well.... there's some... two, three, fourteen!"
and ... a few
then ... a couple more
okay ... many
hola! no wonder we're at a place called vertigo.

So sorry for being dumb... that just struck me as amusing. Don't kill me or throw garbage or anything. :P

I thought he was 11-13 in French and 14 in Spanish. Onze, douze, trieze, catorce. Of course I'm probably wrong.
