I'm currently feelin: sad sad

I think there's something wrong with me. I'm just not excited for this new album anymore. I could very easily get a copy of it off the Internet, but I felt that since this month has been so stressful, I wanted something to look forward to at the end of November. But now that the album's leaked all over the Internet and everybody and their mom owns it now... it just doesn't feel exciting anymore, like there's not going to be anybody left to share my excitement with on Tuesday. I've been counting down the days for this album since September, and at this point it almost doesn't seem worth buying. :(

yanno, i've learnt that for the tour, i'm going to leave this community. i mean, its a really great community. but it killed the new album joy for me. i'm a lone U2 fan in this area for my age. none of my friends like U2 or anything else that i really listen to actually. so, everything i used to hear about the new albums was stuff that i discovered on my own. and seeing as how i dont download music anymore, i wouldnt have been aware of the leak as early if i hadnt been apart of this community.

wow, i'm sorry i did a mini rant. but yeah, i hope you are still excited on tuesday and even more excited when the tour plans come out.

That's my main argument against those who were hoping the album would leak earlier. We do hype ourselves up for a certain date, and it's just anti-climactic to have it so long before the actual release date. The album would always leak a few days before the official release, but at least that would mean there was still a short period where people were discussing their reactions. Now that time's way past and the only exciting thing is perhaps the feel of the album liek OMG. I guess hearing CD-quality versions will be cool: I know it was so awesome when I played the Vertigo single the other day...

Anyway, the reason why I downloaded was because everyone else was doing it. Liking U2 can be such a community thing... I guess I'd rather discover U2 along with others. I vehemently wish it had not been leaked though.

I've been feeling iffy about it too, but I know that'll evaporate once I have that sucker in my hands and I give it the first of many listens. I resisted the downloading, and I've been counting the days, like you, for months... TUESDAY! LESS THAN A WEEK AWAY!

At any rate, I do understand your ambivalence. But I'm still excited for this album.

if it makes you feel any better, I haven't downloaded a single song other than Vertigo, and haven't listened to anything besides the few songs that KROQ played. I haven't even read any articles reviewing the album, and I've saved everyone's album reviews on mailing lists and stuff to read AFTER the 23rd. I'm gonna be outside some CD store on Sunset Blvd at midnight with the other U2 nuts, ready to hear it for the first time the right way.

I'll share it too. I refuse to hear anything ahead of time, and honestly, it irks me that we can. It irks me that we can through U2.com. It's like everyone is out to ruin it for me, including the band themselves. I don't want to mess up the excitement of getting and opening the album in ANY way. I'll only get to hear it the first time once.

It hasn't quite made me less excited, but it does sort of take the fun out of it. I haven't thought about it too much, but I can see where you're coming from.

I'll share your excitement on Tuesday, or, if the shipping is slow, on Wednesday...and I will be glad I waited. And you will too. And we will scoff. *grin*

I'm way late in reading these posts/comments because I actually avoided the community all month, but I just want to say - I am *so* pleased to see all these people who feel the same way I do. I was beginning to feel I was the only fan in the universe who resented this Download Era that's killing all the excitement. Seems there's quite a few of us after all. :)

Personally, I learned from my mistakes with the last album. I downloaded all the preview clips for ATYCLB, read all the reviews before it came out... and by the time I could actually listen to the CD, there was hardly anything new to discover and the sense of anticlimax was overwhelming. I never entirely bonded with that album because I felt like everyone else had kind of planted their flag on it before I got there, if that makes any sense. So this time around, I went to live on another planet for a few weeks, and I was able to listen to HTDAAB in almost total blissful ignorance. IT WAS AMAZING. I adored the whole thing instantly, and I knew that every opinion was *my own* and not something that was influenced by what I'd already read. Avoiding spoilers really does make all the difference in the world... it takes a lot of effort, but I highly recommend it.

Sorry for the ramble there. :)

Well, if people would've been a tad more PAITENT and WAITED for the album like everyone else, then Indeed would it make the anticipation more greater, 'cos I've got to agree with you, what fun is it showing off an album to your friends that they've owned say, months before its release date? It does kinda destroy the pride in owning any new cd, to me at least.

But don't let that destroy your excitment for buying it. :) Look at it this way: You won't have to fight for a copy like people had to do in the past when it came to a new release.

I've been a u2 fan for 10+ years, and I don't have the album yet. I'm waiting to be able to buy it in the stores, so I get the liner notes and everything. (Plus, I'm entirely too lazy to track down a download site.)

I haven't downloaded any of the songs, and I've only heard Vertigo a couple of times now. I've been avoiding it because I want it to feel brand new and fresh when I buy the CD (which is an absolute must, of course). So, I'm another person you could share in the excitement with : )

I can understand if you aren't excited anymore. I refuse to hear any other songs that have been leaked (yea, I have hear Vergtio...in fact it's in the rotation of the theater I work at. But I haven't heard the song in a while...because like everyone else may or may not have said....I want to play it over and over again.)

If you ever watched I Love the 80's ( I think you might have), do what the lead singer of Hottie and the Blowfish did with the Joshua Tree...don't hear anything about the leaked songs and don't listen to any of the songs...or else this might happen again.

Just making a suggestion.
