I'm currently feelin: calm calm

Random thought: wouldn't it be cool if U2 did a cover of John Lennon's "Imagine"?

Totally. Either of those would work for me..

Also, I'd like to hear them cover Synchronicity II by The Police for purely selfish reasons..

Oooh, that's a good idea. I love that song. (John Lennon's version, anyway. Bryan Ferry didn't do such a great job on it.)

Wow, can't believe the thought never occurred to me before... That would be amazing.

However, having said that, I think 'Imagine' is one of those rare songs that has been immortalized by the artist. No matter who covers it again, we are always going to remember it as done by John Lennon, and nothing will ever stand up to his version. Maybe it's better left untouched. :-S

That's one of the few songs where I don't think it could ever be done like it's original, regardless of who covers it.

Indeed, i've heard a few covers of "Imagine" and i swear, my ears bled. like i heard the yeah yeah yeah's cover of "while my guitar gently weeps"...atrcious. good instrumentally, but the singing was horrid. (sorry for the OT comment)

I'm of the opinion (as a Beatles fan myself) that U2 would be the ONLY artist that could pull off "Imagine", not because they'd do it as John did, but with their own twist.

I don't think I've ever seen a Beatles remake I've ever liked - except perhaps Eric Clapton playing "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" at the George tribute. (if that counts)

i trust u2 if they redid it. i agree, they would make it unique, yet still be able to keep the integrity of the song. also, i believe john and bono are sorta the same--like both were/are political, concerned about peace in the world, etc.

i liked the vines' cover of "i'm only sleeping"-the only cover on that "i am sam" soundtrack that i can stand and also jimi hendrix did "daytripper". i swear if some teenybopper like britney spears (who has already butchered classic songs) or jessica simpson (butched berlin, etc) or anyone else, i will be murderous!

I sometimes feel like I'm the only person on the face of the planet who doesn't like that song. Though I'm sure if U2 did it, it might be worth listening to.

The most poignant reminder I have of Imagine would not be U2 covering it, it is however the closing credits track of The Killing Fields if memory serves. Utter weeping ensued in a theater in public.

Nah...that would be dumb.

I prefer to hear U2 doing U2 originals.
