Official statement on tour plans @ 02:22 am

canadanne:
Just in case anyone missed the official confirmation of the tour delay, it was mentioned on U2.com where Paul McGuinness was quoted as saying: "We've postponed the announcement of the tour because the routing is still being worked on. As soon as we get everything confirmed over the coming weeks, we'll let you know."

Hopefully that should clear up any doubt over the reports on the fansites. Not sure about the "family illness" part, though, as that wasn't mentioned in the U2.com news item.

EDIT: Apparently some Irish newspapers have now reported that a member of Edge's family is seriously ill. But that's just rumour at the moment.

I heard it wasn't u2.com but atu2.com (not the official site) because on the official site that first postponement rumour as bastradized by rollingstone is not confirmed

Mm?  The quote from Paul McGuinness is on U2.com. So the tour announcement is definitely postponed, it just hasn't been confirmed *why*.

thats what I am saying, that the first rolling stone magazine announcement was incorrect..and there still is no Official Posted Announcement, only the infamous 'sources say'

"Rolling Stone is wrong. Paul McGuinness said the delay was due to routing problems, not illness. That is still a possiblity, but at least it is from someone more official. Also, he said only the annoucement was delayed, and not necessarily the whole entire tour."

I don't think we can conclusively say that Rolling Stone was *wrong* yet - it could be that Paul McGuinness is just trying not to make a big deal of it so that people won't panic. I certainly hope the article was wrong, though... these newspaper reports of Edge having a seriously ill family member are a bit worrying. :/

Hotpress and all the papers are confirming it's an illness, as well as U2log's speaking with management. So I don't think at this point that RS was inaccurate.
