so, i was making a mix CD for someone of a bunch of live U2 tracks that I have, and after listening to the mix cd over and over again, i fell in love with the Point Depot version of "running to stand still"...and even more so once i discovered what the lyrics for that song were about.

my question for you all is...have you had similar experiences? once you found out the meaning behind a song's lyrics/story behind a song, have you fallen absolutely in love with that song more so than any other U2 track? when i found out the circumstances that surrounded "one", that happened to me, and it's happened again with "running to stand still"...

I used to dislike SYCMIOYO, and felt only slightly better about it when I learned it was about Bono's Dad. But when I watched them performing in New York, and the way his voice broke once and if you looked he was blinking really fast, it hit me. How much of a thing is this, if Bob died years ago and Bono still breaks up singing about it? I fell in love with the song, and the original is even better.

Mothers Of The Disappeared... I mean, I loved it beforehand, but now I love it. Also Crumbs. Being the idiot I am, I originally thought it was about a girl ;)

I did that with "One" also, as well as "Kite" and now "Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own". They are all beautiful songs and knowing the stories behind them make the emotion that much more powerful. I know I will break down when I see them perform SYCMIOYO live.

"Running To Stand Still"; I loved before I knew its meaning, but when I did learn what it was about, I loved it even more. Also with "Bad", and "New Year's Day".
Happened to me with "Beautiful Day", when I started to think of it from the perspective of having nothing yet everything.

I wasn't a real fan of 'Lemon' until I read the lyrics. The words kind of remind me of William Gibson's 'Aidoru' somehow. That has some sort of animal appeal.

Outside of U2, I wasn't a lover of "Wrapped Around Your Finger" by The Police until I read the published lyrics. I love classical Lit. ^^
