I was hoping someone here might be able to answer this for me...

I recently downloaded a version of 'One' which was simply labelled 'The best live acoustic performance ever' and it is, as said, pretty damn good, it's accompanied by strings and all. I have no other information about the track but, after listening to it 3 or 4 times i picked up a third vocal harmony during the chorus doing an alto-ranged harmony as Bono sung the melody and Edge did a soprano-ranged harmony. I was wondering if it has been known for Adam or Larry to provide vocals in live performances of this song at other times as i don't recall hearing so many parts in the Studio version. Also, if someone recognises this description [which is pretty crappy, i'll admit] could they tell me when or where or why this was recorded?

thanks so much!

~K

Pretty sure you've got the version that was live from Modena.

Yep, I am pretty sure I have that too and it's from the 1995 Modena concert. 12 September 1995, if I remember correctly. They also played Miss Sarajevo (which has only been performed twice - the other time was in Sarajevo on 23 September 1997).

Uhh ... I have seen this and I should know, but I honestly cannot remember. Brian Eno or Pavarotti? They were the other two involved in the studio recording anyway.

No idea where/when its from, but isn't it awesome? Very climatic, esp. with the strings and all.

I love the version of One. It truly is the best...though I've never notcied a third harmony...I should listen to it again.

The mystery vocalist is, in fact, Brian Eno.

can someone send it to me? I have it but it isn't a full clip, it cuts off when Bono starts the "when all you got is hurt". and that ladies and gentleman, is just wrong.

At the end...Bono thanks Edge, Brian Eno and Michael.
So, I'm assuming it is Michael Stipe..
but I don't know...

This version of "One" you are all talking about is off of the "Pavarotti and Friends" CD. It's put out every year with different artists singing live for charity. "One" has Bono singing, with the Edge on guitar, Brian Eno on keyboards and the late Micheal Kamen conducting the orchestra. That "Pavarotti and friends" album came out almost 10 years ago. It also has Simon LeBon from Duran Duran and Delores O' Riroden (sp?) from the Cranberries. Hope that clears it all up. Peace out.

Yeah, definitely the Modena performance from the Miss Sarajevo single. Absolutely stunning - I can't listen to that without bursting into tears at the crescendo!
