In memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. @ 10:08 pm

carobanano:
I'm currently feelin: not too shabby

Last night I was trying to write a speech I had to give to various teachers for their MLK/diversity inservice day. Popped JT in the CD player to keep me company, and started hunting around online for the text to his "I have a dream" speech.

I found it within a few minutes, and started reading. Only then did it hit me-- I was reading Dr. King's words, about how one day black people and white people will all join hands and sing, will all sit together at "a table of brotherhood," and listening to Bono sing, "I believe in the kingdom come, then all the colors will bleed into one, bleed into one-- but yes, I'm still running..." Both men, brilliant writers, speaking about the search for racial justice and spiritual fulfillment.

It was a powerful moment of syncronicity for me. Just thought I'd share. :)

Happy Martin Luther King Jr day, especially to all of the US of A-ers out there. Hope you listened to "Pride" or "MLK" today. :D

Did I listen to them? I couldn't resist. I listened to both the studio recording of "Pride," and the live "Rattle and Hum" version, cuz I'm a sentimental dork. I played MLK a little past midnight, missing a wee bit.
