Hello Hello!!

This is from the NG's cut from U2 wire list..... @ 07:17 am

unorthodox_muse:
This is about the people who were able to be in and around the heart at the Superbowl - I thought it was kewl so here's the cut n paste from the NG's someone cut from one of the wire lists.....

__________

Some of you have questions as to who those kids in the
heart were and some even went to say that they weren't
as "somber" as one would expect when the names were
scrolling. Well, here is an inside scoop from a
father of one of the kids in the crowd:

---------------------------------------------
Most if not all these kids didn't even know who U2
was, my 16 year old daughter was one of them. They
weren't nuts about U2 but they all were nuts about
helping to put on a show that all of America was
watching.

These kids were fill-ins from the local school and
church choirs who had to be on the honor roll to even
get there (3.0 grade advarge or better). These kids
worked their buts off to get a shot at performing with
U2.

They all earned credits at school for performing. The
kids rehearsed with U2 on this for the past three
weeks. Talk about a once in a lifetime thing to do.

Remember this was a show and the kids were told when,
how and and who to yell at. Non of them were at the
show to disgrace the American people are the American
flag. All these kids are very proud of the show they
put on and so are the parents including me and my
wife.

I know when I was watching it I had tears in my eyes
just knowing my daughter was a part of something so
great. I can't even think of how it felt being in the
halftime show with all the world watching. I know the
kids were there to show support for what happened on
9/11 and not disrespect anyone.

-------------------------------------------------

So there you go. They are kids with good grades who
worked hard to be part of the show, and every little
scream they did was rehearsed for three weeks. Hope
this helps.

Cheers,

J

As someone who was a bit annoyed with the constant screaming of those fans, I'm not going to blame a single one of them or their parents for that - they sound like good kids who earned the right to be a part of that show and were doing what they were told.

I'd point the finger, then, at whoever was responsible for telling them to scream their heads off like that during what, to the rest of us, was more of a somber thing with the names scrolling up the screen behind the band. To me, that's something you pay your respects to and you don't do that by having kids screaming their heads off and waving their arms all over the place. I was sitting there asking myself, "Why are they making all this noise?"

I don't think whoever organized all that told a few of those kids to throw their glow-sticks at Bono, though.

Yeah they should have been told to keep it down during the scrolling and I personally did not appreciate seeing glow sticks being tossed at Bono! But ya know... they were in the middle of a crowd of 75,000 (?) people... maybe they just wanted *their* glow stick to be seen? Maybe they just couldn't control themselves. Who knows....

The kids rehearsed with U2 on this for the past three weeks.

3 weeks rehearsal?? For that?? How long does it take to learn to jump up and down and scream.

I was thinking the same thing ;)
3 weeks to act like you are not enjoying the band but only there to have your ugly mug on tv ;p

I really don't buy this. Would U2 actually put up with people "practicing" at being fans? And would it really take 3 weeks of rehearsal??

I'm not sure this was a great idea having kids like this go apes over something/someone they aren't even familiar with. So artificial! The fanfare also looked artificial on tv. It almost took away from the performance but the band managed to pull it off quite well..
