They're stupid. You should write a letter to the editor of the paper.

some of my friends said the same thing about the sept. 11 references. i thought it was touching. what really pissed me off was that people were saying how u2 sold out and were hypocrites for doing such a corporate event. and then i told them they did it for free. that shut them up.

What really got me was when my stepmom got all snarky at Bono for "sticking his nose in" regarding 9/11. She said "he's Irish! he's not even American! why should he care?" Well, because, we're all humans, aren't we? Don't you care when people in Iraq die because of the sanctions the US has? Don't you care when people in Afghanistan die because of bombs dropped in retaliation? That sort of thinking just makes me so angry.

We're all human beings. And that's one of the biggest messages U2 has. That's what they're about. So of course Bono's going to care.

when U2 played streets i got goosebumps all over my body. I was overcome with emotion, that was one of the most amazing things i had seen in a long time. anyone who cannot credit U2 for making such a valiant effort to reach out to the world is blind. They did unbelievable. 9.11 hurt us all, and by playing such a touching set at such a corporate event for FREE is one of the kindest and thougthful things I think i've ever heard a band do. ever.

i wonder what your school paper thought about his bit with bill gates & the wef..

i think it's fairly cool they're willing to keep at the 9/11 thing, b/c having a band i know knows their shit (and "sellout" is meaningless if it doesn't numb the artistic vision of a band anyway, people who bitch about corporate sponsorship and turn around and drive a car or drink coke piss me off). it's easy to get really sick of bush's ranting re what happened, u2's doing a good job of making sure the people lost aren't lost to memory in the fallout and spin that's happened since. remembering people died is going to be important if and when more and more people start wanting to understand why it happened to any depth. new policies need to be grounded in the realisation that people died becuase of what happened, not the notion we can beat the world into submission without putting individual lives at greater and greater risk. having bands like u2 coming on heavy with the support opens the door for people listening to them and learning what they have to say. who knows what they'll be writing about the
world since atyclb?

Well, it's not the school paper that said it, but rather the person who wrote the article/editorial piece. I don't think one person's opinion speaks for the rest of the paper of course, let alone the entire school.

Also..would you mind typing without all caps? It's the online equivalent of shouting.

That's because those people are ignorant. They probably don't know many of their songs. People have done that to me until they would actually listen to them or see them. One girl that I worked with constantly dissed me about them claiming that she hated them. She was even offered a chance to see them live for free and TURNED IT DOWN!! (can you imagine? The horror!!)

Then she tells me someone rented Rattle and Hum and she saw it. After that she said that she had more respect for their music (can you believe?) She now regrets that she missed them. It's her loss!!
